Three Electrical & Computer Engineering students, Atkins Ryan, Biswas David and Davis John have been awarded the Wentz Projects for 2008-2009. Congratulations on them for winning the Wentz Research Project Award!
The Lew Wentz Foundation and OSU provide support for the nationally recognized Wentz Research Project awards. The award is to fund independent, mentor-guided research by an undergraduate student. Each year, $4,500 one-year research projects awards are given to approximately 40 undergraduate student scholars. The Wentz Research Projects are an opportunity for undergraduates to design and conduct research in their interested area.

I was very excited when I heard the news that I was getting a Wentz Research Project. I am currently participating in the Freshman Research Program, working on Truncated Parallel Multipliers with Dr. James Stine. Dr. Stine will be my mentor for my Wentz project as well.My research will be in new designs for barrel shifters. I can't wait to get started working.
John Davis
I will work with Dr. Fan on developing an interactive visualization environment for three-dimensional volumetric medical data. This environment will be navigable by a virtual camera that is controllable via a joystick. This opportunity is so exciting to me because I believe my work has the potential to give medical professionals more accessibility and control over the data that they possess and can even be used as an educational tool for medical students to help them examine the human body in a more user-friendly environment. I look forward to working with Dr. Fan on this project.
David Biswas
I will work with Dr. Fan on a research project called motion retargeting. This is an important issue for the motion capture technique. My goal is to propose a general framework to accurately transfer motion data from any performer model to any target model. This research has a variety of medical, sports and entertainment applications. I am very excited about this opportunity and I cannot wait to start work on this.
