The School of Electrical
and Computer Engineering (ECEN) seeks to serve:
- Our
students who are most directly affected by our program.
- Those
in industry, government, or academia who will employ our students.
- The
faculty who have large stakes in the long-term success of our program.
This group forms our constituency.
To train well-qualified engineers for future roles in
technological leadership we have defined five objectives-- what the
graduates of our program will be able to accomplish in the one to five year
period following graduation. To meet these objectives our program
measures outcomes-- what
our students will be able to do when they graduate with a Bachelor of
Science in Electrical Engineering from OSU.
To make sure that every single student who graduates from
OSU has had the opportunity to achieve their maximum potential as an
engineer in our program, we measure, or assess, how well our students are
learning and whether we are giving them sufficient training. Assessment information--
measurement methods, results, and our interpretation-- inform our
constituents how effectively we are meeting our objectives.
Education is not an exact science and as we learn more
about effective educational techniques and the strengths and weaknesses of
our own program, we continually modify our curriculum. These
modifications are driven by what we have learned in our assessment
activities. The actions
taken or proposed are posted for our constituents to provide feedback.
For those of our constituents not familiar with EC-2000
we are continually updating a list of Frequently Asked
Questions about this process. Links to many other sites are
provided.
