Dear Prospective Graduate Student:

Financial aid for graduate students here at Oklahoma State University is granted by the individual department.

Unfortunately, we have no funds with which to grant financial assistance to new students. The status of our own financial resources simply does not permit us to make an exception to our policy that applicants must be supported by some agency other than Oklahoma State University—either their own funds or those of some agency in their home country.

We have over 200 graduate students and only about 40 teaching and research assistantships available so it is very possible that you may not be able to secure one at any time during your educational program. Teaching assistantships are selected based on enrollments, English skills and courses taken. Research assistantships are selected by individual faculty members who secure research funding. I hope this will not preclude your attending OSU but it is very important that you understand our situation prior to arrival. Thank you for your interest in our program. I hope that you can make the necessary financial arrangements to enable you to attend Oklahoma State University.

Yours Truly,
Dr. R. Ramakumar
Professor and Graduate Coordinator
